David is a versatile producer with 15 feature films of various genres under his belt which have been distributed across the globe - four that landed on Netflix, one that premiered at Sundance and several that have won awards at prestigious film festivals. Beginning his career as a Stratford Festival actor and a host of a popular kids game show, David made the leap to producing after having more fulfillment and success when he had creative control of the development and execution of projects. In 2012 he formed his own production company, Phillm Productions, which tackles script development, assembling top notch talent + crew, filming, distribution and publicity. As a kid, David's passion for entertainment began early and his family was always supportive of his various pursuits: hosting local events, writing comedic scenes, winning speech contests, and performing lead roles in high school plays and musicals. After high school, he was accepted in the top three colleges for acting he'd applied for - including receiving an entrance scholarship from his top choice, Ryerson, known as the "Julliard of Canada" at the time. After graduation, David landed a job as a 9th Grade Math and Geography teacher before his professional career in entertainment began: as host of the popular Canadian kid's video game show, "Video and Arcade Top Ten" for two seasons, and then leaving after being selected to join the acting company at The Stratford Festival - where for three years he performed Shakespeare and classical theatre in multiple plays in rep in front of audiences of thousands. He was awarded both a Tyrone Guthrie Award and a Brampton Citizen Arts Acclaim Award from his hometown. David divides his time between Toronto and Los Angeles.
David Jose Porras was born in Miami, FL to Nicaraguan parents Martha Maria and Abel Jose Porras.
